• • 여호수아 17장 1-13절

     

    므낫세 지파가 분배 받는 내용을 전합니다. 요셉의 아들들로서 므낫세가 형이지만 에브라임이 먼저 분배를 받았습니다. 형과 아우의 관계이지만 아우가 앞서게 되는 무엇인가가 분명히 있었던 것입니다.

    눈에 띄는 것은 슬로보핫의 딸들이 분깃을 요구하는 것입니다. 이 가문에는 아들이 없었기 때문입니다. 기업은 자손대대로 이어지게 됩니다. 아버지의 가문은 소멸되는 것입니다. 이들의 요구를 인정해 줍니다. “³헤벨의 아들 길르앗의 손자 마길의 증손 므낫세의 현손 슬로브핫은 아들이 없고 딸뿐이요 그 딸들의 이름은 말라와 노아와 호글라와 밀가와 디르사라 ⁴그들이 제사장 엘르아살과 눈의 아들 여호수아와 지도자들 앞에 나아와서 말하기를 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하사 우리 형제 중에서 우리에게 기업을 주라 하셨다 하매 여호와의 명령을 따라 그들에게 그들의 아버지 형제들 중에서 기업을 주므로(여호수아 17:3–4)” 이들은 모세를 통해 언약하신 내용에 대한 믿음 안에서, 믿음으로 구합니다. 믿음을 가진 자들의 용기와 지혜를 땅 분배의 과정에서 성경은 우리에게 보여 줍니다.

    주어진 환경이나 사람들의 안목에 머뭇거리지 않고, 하나님의 말씀의 기준으로 담대하게 믿음으로 행할 바들을 용기 있게 행하는 우리들이 되기를 소원합니다.

    또 다른 믿음의 대비를 보게 됩니다. 이방족속은 강한 믿음과 의지로 자신들의 땅을 지켜내고, 므낫세 족속은 그렇지 못합니다. 처음에는 힘의 열세에 의한 것이었지만, 후에는 힘이 생김에도 타협하고 말았습니다. 믿음으로 약속을 믿고, 순종하지 못한 결과입니다.

    “¹²그러나 므낫세 자손이 그 성읍들의 주민을 쫓아내지 못하매 가나안 족속이 결심하고 그 땅에 거주하였더니 ¹³이스라엘 자손이 강성한 후에야 가나안 족속에게 노역을 시켰고 다 쫓아내지 아니하였더라(여호수아 17:12–13)”

    믿음으로 행하지 않고, 믿음의 눈으로 보지 않고 간과하고 넘어가는 것은 후에 올무가 됩니다.

     

    [너희는 먼저 그의 나라와 그의 의를 구하라 하셨습니다. 하나님 나라를 구하는 것에 있어서 타협하거나 뒤로 물러나게 하는 현실이 있습니까? 슬로브핫의 딸들처럼 내가 담대히 붙잡아야 할 약속은 무엇입니까?]

     

    오늘의 기도

    연약하게 만드는 상황에 지배받지 않고, 하나님의 약속을 굳게 붙잡고, 믿음의 유산을 얻으며, 지켜 나가는 샘물 가족들이 되게 하소서. 육신을 회복하시고, 영을 회복하시고, 내 마음 속에 허락하신 하나님의 분깃을 먼저 견고히 세워나가고 지켜 나가는데 승리하게 하소서. 믿음의 지혜를 부어 주시기를 기도합니다.

     

    Joshua 17:1-13:

    Joshua 17:1-13: The Inheritance of the Tribe of Manasseh

    This passage describes the distribution of land to the tribe of Manasseh. As the sons of Joseph, Manasseh was the elder brother, yet Ephraim received his portion first. Although they were brothers, there was clearly something that caused the younger brother to take precedence.

    What stands out is the demand for a portion made by the daughters of Zelophehad. This was because their family had no sons. The inheritance was meant to be passed down through the generations, and their father’s line was facing extinction. Their request was granted:

    3 Now Zelophehad the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. 4 And they came near before Eleazar the priest, before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the leaders, saying, "The Lord commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers." So, according to the word of the Lord, he gave them an inheritance among their father's brothers.

    They asked in faith, based on the command given through Moses concerning the covenant. The Bible shows us the courage and wisdom of those who possess faith during the land distribution process. We desire to be people who do not hesitate because of circumstances or human perspective but courageously carry out what needs to be done by faith, using God's Word as our standard.

    We also see another contrast in faith. The foreign tribes fiercely defended their land with strong faith and will, while the tribe of Manasseh failed to do so. This was initially due to a disadvantage in strength, but later, even when they grew stronger, they compromised. This was the result of their failure to believe the promise and obey.

    12 Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities, but the Canaanites were determined to dwell in that land. 13 And it happened, when the children of Israel grew strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but did not utte1rly drive them out.

    Failing to act by faith, or overlooking things by not looking through the eyes of faith, later becomes a snare.

    [We are told to "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness." Is there any reality that causes me to compromise or retreat in seeking the Kingdom of God? What promise must I boldly grasp, like the daughters of Zelophehad?]

    Today's Prayer

    May the Saemmul family not be dominated by weakening circumstances but firmly hold onto God's promise, gain the inheritance of faith, and work to keep it. I pray that you restore your bodies, restore your spirits, and achieve victory in first firmly establishing and guarding the portion God has granted in your hearts. I pray that you pour out the wisdom of faith.
